2001 Wellington Maori Golf Open Championships

In support of the Otaki Golf Club Centenary the Wellington Maori Golf Assocaition was granted two days to hold their Open Championships on the weekend of the 24th and 25th November. This tournament was well supported with entries closing off at 160. It is not many times you turn away 40 entries.

Some of the 160 entries in the Field

We tried to take a group photo but there were too many people. This was some of the 160 entries. We know we are blessed sometimes when the weather turned out to be fine and sunny after a whole week of rain and a Friday evening that never stopped raining.

Our Champions

It is not often that all the Open Champions come from one club but this is what occured. The Mens Senior Champion was Graeme Holmes, the Intermediate Mens Champion was Bob Symonds and the Junior Mens Champion was Don Moselen.

In this photo from left to right is local Otaki folk namely: Henry Williams, Graeme Holmes, Frani Nepia, Bob Symonds, and Don Moselen. The young man in front is not known to me.

Some More Otaki Locals

The Otaki Golf club also supported the event with some 40 entries received. This photo shows some of our Otaki locals Lawrence Walraven with the white hat on, to his right is Taki Nikora and to his right his sister and Lawrences wife Lorna Walraven.
